As we relax into the summer holidays it is a time for reflection on what has been a fantastic year for the school.
Our competition team have played a huge part in the successes and we are incredibly proud of you all and the way in which you represent our school.
The competition team has taken part in a number of events this year –
In October we had our first ‘Dance Festival’ experience at the St George’s Hall Festival, February saw us taking part in the ‘Smile Festival’ and during the Easter break a number of our solo, duet and trio dancers took part in the ‘Ormskirk Festival’
The medals and trophies were gradually starting to amass and to compliment these successes we appeared in variety shows in The Liverpool Epstein and Liverpool Empire. These performances proved to be very popular and the team had a wonderful time without the pressure of competition!
The latter part of the year saw us making not one, but three trips to The Parr Hall complex in Warrington for ‘The North West Cup’, ‘In It to Win It’ and finally ‘The Warrington Dance Festival’. All competitions were a wonderful opportunity to meet and compete with many other dance schools from the North West and our girls certainly held their own against tough competition.
In addition to group competitions we were also involved in the prestigious ISTD Janet Cram Awards with 2 entries into the Chester Heats – Lucie Deakin in the Junior heat and Olivia Rowley in the Senior. Both girls danced beautifully and Lucie was incredibly lucky to be awarded the class prize and a place in the London Final. We enjoyed a trip down to London in support of Lucie and we were incredibly proud as she received the Class Prize once again. This was an extremely tough competition which involved her dancing a class in front of an audience and 3 judges and then dancing a solo routine which had been beautifully choreographed by Laura Meeson.
To finish my round up of our year I must mention our performances in several local summer festivals. We performed at the Lydiate festival in conditions comparable to a very muddy Glastonbury, at Maghull Community Sports Day (glorious weather), at Lydiate Guide festival and we very nearly performed at Maghull’s ‘Canalfest’ but were unfortunately rained off at the last minute! We look forward to next years summer events and are keeping fingers crossed for some sunshine please!
To summarise our performances this year I must say how proud we all are of our dancers and we are indebted to the parents for your support regarding rehearsal, transportation and obviously for providing such talented youngsters!
For anyone who is wanting to join the competition team training we will be opening the classes for new intake in September. Junior Team training is 4.15 till 5.15 on a Wednesday and the Senior team training is 6.15 till 7.15pm. Please contact the school for more information or to register your interest.
