Here are some of the most common questions that parents ask us. You should be able to find the answers to all your questions here but if not then please CONTACT US
When can we join the school?
We have a new intake at the start of each term with the exception of our Show term. We do accept new enquiries at any point during the term and subject to availability are happy to welcome new starters.
How do I register my child with Hamilton Dance?
It's easy to join our school! Simply email us using the contact form and a registration email will then be sent to you.
My child already attends a dance school, can they come to you as well?
It is a generally accepted etiquette amongst dance schools that we do not accept pupils who are actively attending another school. Whilst we appreciate that some people may like to try other schools before they move we do ask that your current school is made aware that you will be trying another school before attending classes with us.
Do you offer a trial period before we commit to a full term of classes?
Yes of course! We offer all new starters the option to take a 3 week trial to ensure our classes are suited to your needs. The trial costs £13.50 per class to be tried but we do often run Free trial promotions - keep an eye on our Social media pages for any promotional offers.
What should my child wear for their trial classes?
Whilst we appreciate that all children will want the uniform straight away we do advise that you wait until after the trial period before purchasing any items. For the trial period please just dress your child in something they can move freely in - leggings and a T Shirt for girls and shorts and T Shirt for boys.
What happens on my child's first class?
We understand that children may be anxious about their first class and as such we do our best to make all new starters feel at home and reassured in the new environment. depending on the age of the child we may buddy them up with one of our class assistants or partner them with someone who may be familiar from school.
Can I stay and watch my child dance?
Under normal circumstances (pre-Covid) we actively encouraged parents to watch their child's first class. However, due to current government restrictions this is no longer possible. In the event that a parent would like to come in and help their child settle we can arrange a meeting prior to the class for the child and parent to come in and view the studio. This will help to familiarise the child and also help to reassure the parent of the safety and suitability of the venue.
Does my child need to bring any food or drink?
Yes, please supply a drink of either water or diluted juice in a sports bottle and a small snack if your child will be staying for longer than 2 classes.
Do you offer dance examinations?
Yes, we offer exams in Ballet, Modern and Tap following the examination syllabi of the Royal Academy of dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teacher's of Dancing (ISTD).
Do all children have to take part in exams?
Whilst we do work to the exam syllabi in the core subjects of Ballet, Modern and Tap the examinations are not mandatory. The school believes that by giving our pupils the opportunity to take exams we are helping to secure strong technique, develop confidence and give a real sense of achievement. We do also have many classes that do not work towards exams. and are happy to help your child find the best possible training methods.
Do you do shows?
We offer many performance opportunities to all our pupils. Various shows are held across the year for different groups but our main school show is held every 2 years.
Do you enter competitions?
We have an extremely successful competition team who take part in a number of festivals and competitions throughout the year.
